Crystal opal, also known as clear opal, is transparent or translucent, like glass, but still displays vibrant shafts of colour in intricate patterns.
As it sounds the opal has a crystal base to the stone. You can see throught the stone and it is clear. The colours are often bright in the stones.
Found in all fields but the majority of it comes from the Coober Pedy area. After black opal, crystal is next most sort after. Crystal opal fossils are also very sort after and valuable.
